The Rubber Sheeting Compounds

Just like rubber matting, rubber sheeting is made with different compounds that may or may not fit your rubber requirements:

SBR (Styrene Butadiene)

This compound originates from the same family as styrene and butadiene synthetic rubbers. It is considered as the most commonly produced synthetic rubber compound on the market, especially in the automotive industry. Characterised by its good resistance to abrasion and aging when additives are added to it, compared with natural rubber this compound is inferior in terms of elongation, resilience and tensile strength.

Neoprene (Chloroprene)

Neoprene was originally used as a replacement for natural rubber when chemical and oil resistance were required. Popular for its balanced properties and with good resistance to weathering and aging, it also has low flammability properties.

Nitrile (Nitrile Butadiene)

This compound is made from the polymerisation of acrylonitrile with butadiene.  Also referred to as NBR acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber and acrylonitrile rubber, it is resistant to fuel, certain chemicals and different temperature ranges.

Nitrile rubber sheeting is best for applications that require heat resistance. It is also resistant to oil which makes it the ideal material for seals and gaskets, as well as fuel line hoses.

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene)

EPDM or Ethylene Propylene Diene is derived from oil and natural gas. This synthetic rubber is widely used for low-slope buildings across the globe. With high density, it is a durable material that affords great UV/weather resistance. This compound can also adapt in high and low temperatures.

Butyl (Isobutylene)

This compound can withstand most industrial applications and has good chemical resistance. What makes this rubber compound unique is its permeability to air that is 70% better than other rubber materials.
