DIY: How to Install Rubber Matting in your Car

One of the most basic ways to maintain the value of your car is to install high quality rubber matting. It can protect your car from grease, dirt and moisture, further preventing the corrosion of your vehicle’s floorboard.

Need to upgrade your car’s interior? Installing rubber matting is surprisingly easy. These simple guidelines will help you to achieve the best results:

Things you will need:

  • Tape measure
  • Rubber cutter
  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors

Directions:

  • Before anything else, you should measure the floor to determine the size of the rubber roll you need to buy.
  • Carefully remove the old matting from your car.
  • Clean the car’s interior. Give it a good vacuum and wipe away any excess dirt. Leave the area to dry.
  • By using the old matting that was removed from the car, create a paper template: place some heavy-duty paper on top of the old mat, trace the edges and then cut it out.
  • Lay the template on the floor inside the car. If necessary, improve the fit by making some alterations. You can cut away excess portions and add sections by taping them on.
  • Insert the rubber matting by pressing it flat, taking care to ensure that the corners are firmly fitted into place.
