EN45545-HL3 Matting
Coruba can now create bespoke rubber solutions using our latest material, which is manufactured to comply with rubber standard EN45545-HL3. This includes our rubber mouldings, extrusions and other products.
There are many benefits to using standard EN45545-HL3 rubber. It is flame retardant and has low smoke release and low toxicity. Unlike most other flame-retardant rubber, the material is also halogen-free.
Aimed at protecting staff and passengers against onboard fires in rail vehicles, the European standard for fire safety, EN45545, was introduced as a mandatory requirement for railways throughout Europe.
It applies to the manufacturers of all rail transport, including high-speed and regional trains and also Metros and trams. There are three recognised hazard levels: HL1, HL2 and HL3 – HL3 is the highest level.
A series of tests are carried out to ascertain how the rubber measures up to the product requirements. Key parameters include whether it stops the spread of flames, its ignitability, heat release, smoke intensity and toxicity. To ensure compliance, Coruba’s EN45545-HL3 rubber has been stringently tested by Warrington Fire Service in the UK.
